April 2010: Family Day

Theta Xi provides many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in their son's fraternity experience; Family Day is just one of these many opportunities. Hosted by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Family Day brings together undergraduate brothers and parents, and allows them to participate in variety of fun, interactive, and engaging activities with each other. Later on in the evening, as the spring semester comes to a close, the brothers take time to gather and reflect on the past nine months. A catered dinner, awards ceremony, and slideshow presentation afford the brothers and parents an opportunity to reflect on the past year, and recognize outstanding individuals in the chapter. Theta Xi recognizes the desire for parental involvement within the chapter; Family Day is one of many avenues which exist to provide parents with such opportunities.

March 2010: Slip 'n Slide/Mixers

As the weather warms up, it's time to head outside and take advantage of all the warm spring weather. We participate in a variety of outdoor activities during the Spring. Perhaps the most unique activity is the Slip 'n Slide and Cookout mixer, held by us and Kappa Delta. At this event, the brothers took advantage of the warm weather to run down the Slip 'n Slide or play a game of volleyball. Additionally, good food and good fun were served up at this event. Other events held during the Spring include camping, cornhole, and a variety of intramural sports.

February 2010: Leadership Academies

Being a part of a student organization often means unique leadership skills are required, particularly for those holding an officer position. Fortunately, our campus and national office recognize that education for those unique needs helps significantly with improving chapter operations. Therefore, the chapter sends the chapter president as well as newly initiated brothers to a YMCA Camp outside St. Louis each year for Presidents and Rising Stars Academy. Additionally, District Leadership Academy, a regional conference involving all Theta Xi chapters in the Southeastern U.S., allows brothers to network, share ideas with each other, and work towards a common goal of improving operations at the chapter level and beyond. IMPACT, a campus-based leadership institute, brings fraternities and sororities from UNCP together to unite and advance the image of the Greek experience on campus.

January 2010: Intramural Basketball

As the weather outside in Pembroke gets frightful, the chapter continues its storied tradition of excelling in sports indoors. For Spring 2010, the chapter fielded two intramural basketball teams on the court. The two teams, MisMatch and No Way Out, saw fierce competition among other teams. Theta Xi participates in a variety of intramural sports throughout the year, and has a rich tradition of reaching to the top of our division in sports, often walking away with a variety of trophies, particularly during softball season.

November 2009: Intramural Football

We could never forget about all of our athletic brothers in the chapter. And while they might not all be NCAA material... they sure are pretty competitive when it comes to intramural sports on campus. For the Fall 2009 semester, Theta Xi participated in intramural flag football and volleyball. Although the flag football team walked away with a 1-3 record and the volleyball team with a 1-2 record, there was still plenty of competition and fun to be had at each and every intramural game. Our participation in intramural sports certainly doesn't stop when the fall semester ends... look for us to participate in intramural basketball and softball when the spring semester rolls around.

October 2009: Football Games and Tailgating

Fall in Pembroke could only mean one thing... it's time for some football! For the Fall 2009 semester, the brothers were out at the UNCP Tailgate zone supporting our third-year football program, which saw a 9-1 regular season as well as the first ever playoff game in program history. Theta Xi was the only fraternity present for tailgating at all home football games, rain or shine. While other fraternities headed for the hills, Theta Xi supported its football team before and during every home football game, complete with great food, fun, music, and games. Expect us to do just the same for the 2010 season, as another exciting football season, as well as an even larger tailgating crew, are sure to be on tap next year.

September 2009: Pool parties

When it's time to cool off and have fun, it's time to go to the pool. This fact has never been lost among the brothers, and we know where to go when (most of us) are willing to fearlessly jump off the high dive or play some basketball in the pool. After all, what's more fun than making a slam dunk into the basket from the middle of the olympic-size swimming pool, or better yet... jumping off the high dive (or watching someone jump off for you if you're not inclined)? If studying and writing papers is getting to you, take a break, cool off, and relax in the swimming pool. Chances are, you'll see us there.

August 2009: Cookouts

What do you get when you have hot weather, a volleyball court, a grill, good food, good fun, and good times? A Theta Xi social event, of course! And this is no different. When the weather's warm, you're liable to spot some of the brothers at the University Courtyard Apartments grilling out, playing a game of volleyball or cornhole, or just relaxing and forgetting about the daily stresses of college life. It may not be the beach, but it's as close as you can get... and who wouldn't want to spend some quality time outside with their best friends? When the afternoon rolls around on a sunny day and there's nothing to do, getting together and having a cookout with the brothers will surely make that boredom go away.
